Mount Dora is known as “the New England of the South” to many people. In keeping with the combination of Southern hospitality and New England charm this theme does not stop at the entrance to our spectacular community.

Lake Dora, a 4,500 acre lake, is at the center of it all and the Lakeside Inn, built in 1883, is the oldest standing structure. There are many other local bed & breakfasts too. Florida Waterman Hospital is located in near-by Tavares and provides world-class healthcare and a cardiac-care program that is one of the finest available. In addition, Orlando and its many healthcare facilities are near-by, as well.
Mount Dora is known for many things and among them is the fabulous variety of restaurants and fine dining in the area. From French cuisine, to outdoor cafes, to Irish pubs, to American cuisine you can find it here. There is even an underground bar (The Frosty Mug) and authentic afternoon tea rooms…! There are many cultural activities and events supported by the local area. The Ice House Theatre stages plays, the Mount Dora Center for the Arts features rotating exhibits and The Mount Dora Community Concert Association offers year-round concert series.
There are 5 public parks in and around Mount Dora for swimming, boating and even hiking. Plus, there is a full-service marina on large Lake Dora. This is a fisherman’s and boater’s paradise! The Dora Canal connects Lake Dora to the Harris Chain of Lakes, which can be navigated to the St. Johns River and, ultimately, the Atlantic Ocean. Also, the Ocala National forest is located just north of Mount Dora and offers a wide variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. Then there is the Wekiva Springs State Park located just to the southeast and the facilities they offer such as canoeing are fun plus you can see a large natural spring here, as well. Mount Dora is also home to the 2nd largest Lawn Bowling Club in the United States. And, we cannot complete the recreation section without mentioning some of the finest golf available is within a short drive from your new home in Lakes of Mount Dora…
Mount Dora is called “Festival City” by many people and for good reason…it hosts many large festivals each year! A list of them is shown below:
The oldest standing structure is the Lakeside Inn built in 1883. Other notable landmarks are the Donnelly House built in 1893. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now a Masonic Lodge. The famous Yacht Club was built in 1913 and is Florida’s oldest inland yacht club. Then there is a new but distinct landmark that should be mentioned…the 35 ft. tall Mount Dora Lighthouse on Lake Dora where sunsets are known to be especially romantic!
